Assignment Title: Natural Energy Vehicles

Introduction

According to Gasoline Civil Control Agency(GCCA), there are top three causes of air pollution being an area, point, and mobile. These categories depend on criteria of emission or ranks of dangers exposed to the environment pollutants precisely air.  Under criteria pollutants, major causes of air pollution are certain chemicals harmful to both physical environment and human health. Some of these chemicals being carbon monoxide, sulfur gas, nitrogen, and oxygen combustion and finally, lead. Finally, most dangerous pollutants of oxygen cause chronic diseases like cancer, breathing disorders, heart diseases and finally reproductive system effects.

Background Information

Contamination sources under area category include dry cleaners, areas of gas and auto body shops selling paints. These sources emit less than ten tons yearly of a combination of criteria and dangerous emitters(Scorecard, 2013). Point sources of dangerous gasses include manufacturing industries applying chemicals plantations, refineries of oil and finally, dangerous waste furnaces. Power plants like for manufacturing fertilizers, refineries of petrol, paper milling sectors and, copper smelter contribute a lot to combustion of oxygen and Sulfur accounting to about ninety percent of criteria contamination.

Mobile emitters both on road transportation and off-road transportation units contribute to this type of contamination. Driving vehicles on daily basis being the major cause of fresh air contamination. Internationally, this type of air contamination amounts to seventy-five percent of whole contamination. With emission of a combination of oxygen and Nitrogen gas, and carbon comes from this type of pollution. Motor units remain responsible for large amounts of dangerous air contaminators with substances which include particulate substances from diesel, benzene believed to cause cancer and finally, formaldehyde. Mobile sources primarily mobile modes of transportation remain as the most causes of air pollution (Scorecard, 2013).

An attempt to control and reduce amounts of air pollution levels, led to the introduction of laws to regulate a number of gasoline contaminations. Reformulated gas involves gasoline merged to combust more cleanly than conventional gas to minimize formation of fog and pollution of the air we inhale. Some rules under this body include the law on clean air requires environmental conservation agency fuel and its related activities used in motor vehicles for all types of transportation units if energy applied and it additives leads to air contamination. Law also requires the agency to handle dangerous gas emitters’ products like energy and it’s added elements that cause hindrances to production regulation instruments uses on cars or engines to reduce dangerous gas production.

Reformulated gas applies most in cities producing high amounts of gasoline gas into the air and currently, it is applied in seventeen different cities in the United States and a region in Columbia. National government made sure that about thirty percent of gas sold within the country is cleansed to remove impurities produced into the air causing pollution(Cooper et al, 2002). Agency has managed to represent a significant section of the nation’s strategies for smog reduction. The program combined with other controls enforced on industries and transportation, aimed at reducing levels of smog contributing to significant long duration reduction of smog.

There exist variety means of energy production introduced with aims to reduce the level of pollution to clean air. Although gasoline control legislation’s been introduced to curb the challenge, it is still not enough to eliminate air contamination challenge hence, calling for changes in energy sources and transportation units with fewer disadvantages to our environment and health. Application of natural gas vehicle which combusts via natural gas as the most priority, in this case, to solve these challenges.

Whether via renewable or conventional methods, advantages of natural energy application are notable everywhere with its use in domestic activities, well-established systems of distribution and finally, relatively cheaper with low emission levels. If produced via renewable means, it offers more benefits. Renewable means of natural energy production comes from biogas which is a non-gas product produced via decomposition of organic matter, created to the best quality of purity. Capturing bioenergy from remains in lands and livestock’s waste reduces production via prohibiting the release of methane to the surrounding, a gas twenty-five percent stronger in effectiveness than combustion of carbon and oxygen. Also, producing energy via anaerobic ingestion minimizes bad odors plus, the creation of liquid fertilizers rich in nutrients.

While making a decision to apply the use of natural gas, one must consider energy security, the performance of vehicles using biogas for combustion, lower levels of emissions and, infrastructure and availability of vehicles applying natural gas as a source of energy. As compared to other sources of energy, natural gas is more affordable in terms of costs since combusting the gas requires less electricity as compared to other forms of energy. Natural gas is not as pure as solar or wind sources of energy, but it’s the purest source of fossil fuel available. It produces less carbon during combustion, as compared to coal and oil, and emits equals to zero sulfur hence, more cost friendly and efficient than other sources.

Natural energy source as compared to other generators is more dependable. Gas powered heaters applied during production, the energy required in them transported via pipe underground, hence secure and safe from effects of heavy rain downfalls accompanied by storms and harsh weather conditions. It is available even in emergent cases since no electricity used in the heating process(Zhang et al, 2014). Finally, as compared to other sources, natural energy serves as a domestic source hence aids in the reduction of depending on foreign oils.

A number of steps involved in extraction and implementation of natural gas. Firstly, one should check how available the gas is from one’s household, visit contractor of gas apparatus for suitable gas equipment’s options available and place an order with a gas contractor for installation of service line within home area. Then, obtain documents of a permit from the involved contractor, mark areas around the home with necessary utilities needed and then installation of the service line. Later on, heating contractor connects necessary apparatus and link them to the gas meter, performs pressure examinations to ensure better performance and then turns on the meter. Finally, utilization of natural gas production.

Application of natural energy comes with a number of advantages and disadvantages, to our natural environment and health conditions of every individual. Some of the achievements of applying the gas are, it’s a renewable source of energy hence continuous delivery of services while applied. Gas also lighter than air and more secure and safer as compared to propane which is heavy than air in mass. Also, releases fewer pollutants and burns less as compared to other energy sources. On the other hand, the gas has some shortcomings affecting our environment in a negative way. The main pro of this gas is global warming gas emissions. Even though it emits less hazardous gas as compared to other sources, drilling and extraction techniques applied, and its transportation to storage facilities leads to leakage of methane which causes environment degradation. Even though its emission rates are lower than other sources, it depends on levels of leakages since at some point it might surpass expected levels of pollutant production.

Production of natural energy causes air contamination. During the combustion process, it produces some amount of dangerous gasses like mercury, sulfur and other particulates considered hazardous. Also, burning produces a combination of oxygen and nitrogen elements which lead to the formation of smog. Most areas concentrating on its production, experience high levels of criteria contaminators which cause the destruction of the ozone layer, which protects our environment from direct layers from the sun.

Construction of areas for extraction causes land disturbances, altering land use and whole ecosystem which leads to soil erosion and new migration patterns for wildlife creatures. While land cleared for construction of drilling site, it leads to erosion of dirt, some minerals, and other damaging impurities into nearby water sources. Increased levels of erosion possess a danger to aquatic animals due to the release of dangerous chemicals into water bodies. During production, water used for domestic purposes could contaminate with harmful chemicals used for drilling extraction wellbores or by disposed water already used. Finally, fracturing of land during construction of extraction areas leads to the magnitude seismic activities which may end up being undetected later on causing earthquakes.

Conclusion

Even though no source of energy aimed at reducing pollution in our natural environment, natural sources of energy is more suitable as compared to other sources. Suitable measures put into place to manage its extraction means to ensure minimized emission of harmful gasses and firm construction to reduce physical damage to the surroundings.
