Success University (SU) is a medium sized undergraduate institution located in Southern California.  SU offers Associates and Bachelors programs in Business, Psychology and Education at their San Moreno campus and online. SU has decided to launch three new programs next Fall.

The three programs to be launched are:

  1. A  Business Certificate in Leadership
  2. An Associates of Science  (AS) degree in Business Administration
  3. A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Organizational Leadership

The accrediting body of Success University has given the programs their blessing and the School of Business has been charged with launching the three programs.  They have created a team consisting of faculty, graduates, admissions staff, student services personnel and a marketing representative from the Corporate Office to assist in the launch of the programs.

You are tasked with bringing the team together, apprising them of their roles and responsibilities within the team and mapping out a timeline with deliverables.

You are to produce an executive brief of a 5 – 7 pages that clearly outlines the:

  1. Team plan: Your plan to create a cohesive team. Include at least three strategies you plan to use to ensure a unified team.
  2. Launch plan – a comprehensive list of steps (at least 6) describing how you will launch the new programs.
  3. Goals and Deliverables: Describe the goals you have set for this project and create a timeline with clearly marked deliverables.
  4. Evaluation and Monitoring: Explain how you plan to evaluate the progress of your team and individual team members – discuss the key strategies you will adopt to monitor your team’s progress and coach them to success. Examples might include weekly face to face meetings or written reports submitted to you weekly by each team member.
  5. Implementation plan: How do you intend to implement the launch plan? Discuss how the team will function and their roles during the implementation.
  6. Change plan: Create a strategy to deal with potential resistance from all stakeholders involved in the running and delivery of the new programs.  For example there may be a concern in terms of increased workload, having to learn new policies and processes and the speed of the planned changes.

Identify a health care organization for which a significant amount of information is available, in books, journals, reports, or on the Internet. Conduct an audit of the organization’s strategic assets based on the information you are able to gather from various sources.     • The first part of your audit should address the organization’s historical financial performance and its current financial condition, as described in your textbook. A lot of the necessary data can be found in the organization’s annual report and its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and state-level government regulatory agencies. Research sources such as business journals, magazines, and other media that report on these types of organizations.
  • The second part of the audit should describe in as much detail as possible what you consider to be the major resources and competencies of the organization.  Use a SWOT chart to categorize the most relevant points (these may be more narrative than quantitatively analytical). Try to identify assets that appear to be unique to the organization and that give it some competitive advantage over its rivals. Also make a note of areas in which the organization is weak, which might be the target of strategic attacks by those rivals.
    • Now consider the activities that are described in the value chain for this organization.  Which do you believe cost the most to perform?  What factors do you base your opinion on? What do you believe can be done to reduce the costs, thereby giving this organization a competitive edge?
  • Finally, consider that this organization would like to set up a satellite office in a nearby city.  In this satellite office they will make changes to their processes to address their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.  Develop a mission statement for this satellite office.  Create four strategic goals for this office, one for each SWOT category.

The stated goal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is to give more Americans access to health care. But relative to the topic of outsourcing, it may also be causing an increase in benefits administration outsourcing, as employers, especially those that are smaller, seek help in navigating the uncertain, complicated, ongoing health care-reform measures.

When facing the massive reporting and compliance requirements required by the new health care laws, many smaller and mid-size employers will seek more outside assistance/partnering. Many of them lack the back-office support to meet the PPACA’s regulations and it is not a skill they want to make a core competency (Starner, 2011).

Using the 5C model (culture, costs, competencies, compliance, competitors), analyze how new laws would specifically stimulate increased outsourcing of health care and related benefits. Stress Management Assignment

You are the senior veteran partner of a special highway patrol unit that is working a major interstate that is a corridor for drug and gun smuggling. Your partner has the highest marks ever in the academy and has a great civilian education in criminology. He knows the laws and regulations by heart. He is a staunch family man who is faithful to his wife, and except for an occasional beer with the boy, does not abuse alcohol. He has an exemplary work record and is extremely reliable. As such, he is assigned as your partner in a very hazardous detail of drug and gun intervention.

The job requires the officers to make legitimate profiling assessments of potential smugglers and wait for them to make a motor vehicle violation so that they can be stopped. Once stopped, minimal interview techniques almost always lead to the discovery of contraband and a subsequent arrest.

The first 3 months on the job with your new partner have been great. The two of you have made 18 felony arrests for narcotics and gun possession. Six of the drug arrests were major weights of crack and heroin. Two of the gun arrests involved the seizure of numerous fully automatic weapons.

In the beginning 2 weeks of month 4, things start to get dicey. Three of the last 12 traffic stops have resulted in shootouts with the occupants of the cars stopped. While nobody was killed and only two people wounded (both of them suspects), the shooting appears to be taking its toll on the new officer.

When going to the car last week at the start of shift, an officer in an adjacent car slammed the trunk lid, causing a loud bang. As you turned toward your car, you found your partner on the ground trying to scoot under the vehicle. Four nights earlier, you were called to back up another unit that had a high-risk stop. Upon your arrival, you drew your weapon and ran up to the other unit, two officers who were wrestling with two suspects. After the suspects were handcuffed, you turned to find your partner crouching behind your unit shaking. When you tried to talk to him about it, he said he was starting to get the flu. The next night he called in sick.

The night following the sick night, while on patrol, you stopped a suspect vehicle, and the driver was a huge sawmill worker with 3 outstanding felony warrants for robbery and assault. The suspect attacked you, and you rolled around on the ground for a full 45 seconds trying to get the suspect handcuffed. After getting him under control you looked up to see your partner frantically screaming on the radio for back up about 30 feet away. He never came to your aid during the incident.

The unit commander suspects that there is a problem and asks you to write a fitness report on your new partner with recommendations for follow-up on the report you submit.

In a report to the unit commander of the special highway patrol unit, indicate the issues in the scenario that cause you concern about the new officer. You will identify how the symptoms displayed by the new officer are consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
