Bringing Team Together, Apprising Them and Mapping out a Timeline with Deliverables – Success University Scenario

Success University (SU) is a medium sized undergraduate institution located in Southern California.  SU offers Associates and Bachelors programs in Business, Psychology and Education at their San Moreno campus and online. SU has decided to launch three new programs next Fall.

The three programs to be launched are:

  1. A  Business Certificate in Leadership
  2. An Associates of Science  (AS) degree in Business Administration
  3. A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Organizational Leadership

The accrediting body of Success University has given the programs their blessing and the School of Business has been charged with launching the three programs.  They have created a team consisting of faculty, graduates, admissions staff, student services personnel and a marketing representative from the Corporate Office to assist in the launch of the programs.

You are tasked with bringing the team together, apprising them of their roles and responsibilities within the team and mapping out a timeline with deliverables.

You are to produce an executive brief of a 5 – 7 pages that clearly outlines the:

  1. Team plan: Your plan to create a cohesive team. Include at least three strategies you plan to use to ensure a unified team.
  2. Launch plan – a comprehensive list of steps (at least 6) describing how you will launch the new programs.
  3. Goals and Deliverables: Describe the goals you have set for this project and create a timeline with clearly marked deliverables.
  4. Evaluation and Monitoring: Explain how you plan to evaluate the progress of your team and individual team members – discuss the key strategies you will adopt to monitor your team’s progress and coach them to success. Examples might include weekly face to face meetings or written reports submitted to you weekly by each team member.
  5. Implementation plan: How do you intend to implement the launch plan? Discuss how the team will function and their roles during the implementation.
  6. Change plan: Create a strategy to deal with potential resistance from all stakeholders involved in the running and delivery of the new programs.  For example there may be a concern in terms of increased workload, having to learn new policies and processes and the speed of the planned changes.

Development of a Healthcare Business Unit’s Strategy

HCM401 Assignment 1: LASA 2 Instructions

Identify a health care organization for which a significant amount of information is available, in books, journals, reports, or on the Internet. Conduct an audit of the organization’s strategic assets based on the information you are able to gather from various sources. The audit you conduct will not be as thorough and detailed of an audit as the organization itself might conduct as you will not have access to the same inside information as internal auditors. Do your best to gather and report the following information.

  • Start with a general description of the service that the healthcare organization provides.  Include the mission statement for the organization.  If there is not one, create one you believe would best describe the mission of the organization.
    • The first part of your audit should address the organization’s historical financial performance and its current financial condition, as described in your textbook. A lot of the necessary data can be found in the organization’s annual report and its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and state-level government regulatory agencies. Research sources such as business journals, magazines, and other media that report on these types of organizations.
  • The second part of the audit should describe in as much detail as possible what you consider to be the major resources and competencies of the organization.  Use a SWOT chart to categorize the most relevant points (these may be more narrative than quantitatively analytical). Try to identify assets that appear to be unique to the organization and that give it some competitive advantage over its rivals. Also make a note of areas in which the organization is weak, which might be the target of strategic attacks by those rivals.
    • Now consider the activities that are described in the value chain for this organization.  Which do you believe cost the most to perform?  What factors do you base your opinion on? What do you believe can be done to reduce the costs, thereby giving this organization a competitive edge?
  • Finally, consider that this organization would like to set up a satellite office in a nearby city.  In this satellite office they will make changes to their processes to address their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.  Develop a mission statement for this satellite office.  Create four strategic goals for this office, one for each SWOT category.

Effects of Legislation on HR Outsourcing

The stated goal of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is to give more Americans access to health care. But relative to the topic of outsourcing, it may also be causing an increase in benefits administration outsourcing, as employers, especially those that are smaller, seek help in navigating the uncertain, complicated, ongoing health care-reform measures.

When facing the massive reporting and compliance requirements required by the new health care laws, many smaller and mid-size employers will seek more outside assistance/partnering. Many of them lack the back-office support to meet the PPACA’s regulations and it is not a skill they want to make a core competency (Starner, 2011).

Using the 5C model (culture, costs, competencies, compliance, competitors), analyze how new laws would specifically stimulate increased outsourcing of health care and related benefits. Consider examples at the local, state, and federal level of changes in laws/regulations that either increased or decreased business partnering and outsourcing. For example, why would a federal requirement for universal health care coverage increase HR outsourcing?

To complete this Assignment, respond to the following in a 3- to 4-page paper:

Analyze the effects of legislation on HR outsourcing.
Using the 5C model, analyze how new laws requiring universal health care would specifically stimulate increased outsourcing of health care and related benefits.
Using the table provided in this week’s Learning Resources (Effects of Legislation on HR Outsourcing), do research to fill in five of the nine cells illustrating the effects of local, state, and federal legislation on HR outsourcing.
Provide a brief description/explanation of each.
Identify whether the legislation increased, decreased, or had no effect on HR outsourcing.
Evaluate the effects of federal legislation requiring universal health care coverage on the outsourcing of health care in the U.S.
From your research, describe three specific effects you think such legislation would have on outsourcing of health care.
What specific actions can HR professionals take to enable employees to navigate the complexities of PPACA?

Stress Management Assignment

You are the senior veteran partner of a special highway patrol unit that is working a major interstate that is a corridor for drug and gun smuggling. Your partner has the highest marks ever in the academy and has a great civilian education in criminology. He knows the laws and regulations by heart. He is a staunch family man who is faithful to his wife, and except for an occasional beer with the boy, does not abuse alcohol. He has an exemplary work record and is extremely reliable. As such, he is assigned as your partner in a very hazardous detail of drug and gun intervention.

The job requires the officers to make legitimate profiling assessments of potential smugglers and wait for them to make a motor vehicle violation so that they can be stopped. Once stopped, minimal interview techniques almost always lead to the discovery of contraband and a subsequent arrest.

The first 3 months on the job with your new partner have been great. The two of you have made 18 felony arrests for narcotics and gun possession. Six of the drug arrests were major weights of crack and heroin. Two of the gun arrests involved the seizure of numerous fully automatic weapons.

In the beginning 2 weeks of month 4, things start to get dicey. Three of the last 12 traffic stops have resulted in shootouts with the occupants of the cars stopped. While nobody was killed and only two people wounded (both of them suspects), the shooting appears to be taking its toll on the new officer.

When going to the car last week at the start of shift, an officer in an adjacent car slammed the trunk lid, causing a loud bang. As you turned toward your car, you found your partner on the ground trying to scoot under the vehicle. Four nights earlier, you were called to back up another unit that had a high-risk stop. Upon your arrival, you drew your weapon and ran up to the other unit, two officers who were wrestling with two suspects. After the suspects were handcuffed, you turned to find your partner crouching behind your unit shaking. When you tried to talk to him about it, he said he was starting to get the flu. The next night he called in sick.

The night following the sick night, while on patrol, you stopped a suspect vehicle, and the driver was a huge sawmill worker with 3 outstanding felony warrants for robbery and assault. The suspect attacked you, and you rolled around on the ground for a full 45 seconds trying to get the suspect handcuffed. After getting him under control you looked up to see your partner frantically screaming on the radio for back up about 30 feet away. He never came to your aid during the incident.

The unit commander suspects that there is a problem and asks you to write a fitness report on your new partner with recommendations for follow-up on the report you submit.

In a report to the unit commander of the special highway patrol unit, indicate the issues in the scenario that cause you concern about the new officer. You will identify how the symptoms displayed by the new officer are consistent with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). You will provide at least 2 recommendations for action concerning the new officer. You will provide the commander with options on what you think can be done to prevent this type of problem in the unit.

Assignment Guidelines

  • Address the following in 2–3 pages:
    • How important is it for partners to react appropriately in the field? Explain.
    • What are the key symptoms that may be observed in the partners actions and reactions in the scenario? Explain.
    • What are the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder on the part of the partner in the scenario? Explain.
    • What are 2 specific actions that should be taken concerning the partner? Explain.
  • Address the following in 2–3 pages:
    • Select 2 personality disorders common to surviving victims of a life-threatening experience other than post-traumatic stress disorder.
    • For each selected personality disorder, address the following questions:
      • What are the symptoms of this disorder? List and describe.
      • What types of people typically succumb to this disorder? Explain.
      • How can individuals with this disorder be treated? Explain.
  • Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

Assignment 1: Discussion—The Rise of Political Parties

The two major political parties in the U.S. today, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, did not exist at the time the Constitution was drafted and ratified. Various issues led to the development of these political parties, some of which are pertinent to politics, even today.

In this assignment, you will examine the development of the two-party system. You will have the opportunity to analyze the American need and desire to have opposing views.

Based on your research and analysis of the readings for this module, respond to the following:

  • What issues led to the rise of the Jefferson-Republican party in the 1790s?
  • What mistakes were made by the Federalists that allowed the Republican Party to succeed?
  • What issues that were controversial in the 1790s remain controversial today?
  • Do you think partisan politics is a good method for solving the nation’s problems and advancing the nation’s interests? In the present two-party system, what impact do minor parties have on specific issues in recent elections?
  • How have the Democratic and Republican Parties implemented these issues into their party platform?

Provide appropriate justification for your answers. Be sure to support your positions with references to scholarly sources.

Write your initial response in a minimum of 300 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Application: Professional Ethics and Codes of Conduct

Application: Professional Ethics and Codes of Conduct

A professional licensing board or professional association governs each area of practice within human services and defines professional ethics or codes of conduct for their members. These professional ethics or codes of conduct clearly define the expected conduct and/or ethical considerations that members must follow to remain in good standing. Disciplinary processes are often in place as a means of enforcement when ethical violations occur. Depending upon the professional licensing board and/or association, various consequences of violations can result, ranging from mediation between involved parties to legal proceedings, depending on the severity of the violation. Human services professionals must be aware of their professional ethics and codes of conduct in their area of interest to avoid violations and related consequences.

To prepare for this assignment, research a professional human services association in your area of interest. Choose an association in which their professional ethics or code of conduct is available for you to access. Consider the history, evolution, and enforcement of the professional ethics or code of conduct.

The assignment: (3 – 4 pages)

  • Analyze the history of the professional ethics or code of conduct within your area of interest in human services. Briefly describe:
  • Who developed it
  • Where it originated
  • How it evolved
  • What major changes/additions were made

Explain how the professional ethics or codes of conduct are enforced. Briefly describe:

  • Who or what groups enforce them
  • What processes/procedures are used to enforce and resolve disputes or violations
  • What consequences exist as a result of violations

Screening police officers for employment and emotional stability

In this assignment, you will explore how interrogation is different from interviewing.

Scenario: You work as a psychology professional for a metropolitan police department. Your primary job is to screen police officers for employment and emotional stability. You make recommendations about their suitability for employment, conduct interviews with police officers to determine whether they should be referred for counseling, and monitor their performance by dialogues with their superiors.

You are recognized for your skills as a clinician, and you are asked to participate with a team of interrogators so they may become more proficient in obtaining confessions from suspects. Compare the relationship of a psychology professional working with a suspect as a client with the relationship of a psychology professional working as a consultant to an interrogator. Tasks: In a minimum of 500 words, respond to the following: Part 1: Differentiate between interviewing and interrogation. What are the goals of interviewing and interrogation? In what instances would a psychology professional be involved in an interrogation? Part 2: Identify a context and setting for a forensic psychology professional to be involved in an interrogation. What would be your concerns in taking on the role of or assisting that forensic psychology professional? Part 3: Review the current version of the APA Ethics Code and the APA resolution on interrogations and identify an ethical principle that potentially conflicts with psychology professionals participating in interrogation. Discuss your choice in relation to the context and setting you identified in Part 2. Use the current version of the APA Ethics Code; choose elements of the ethical principles to explore issues such as “do not harm,” “informed consent,” “use of assessment techniques by unqualified persons,” and “resolving ethics code conflicts in an organization.” Explore the following issues in the context of the scenario above: Who is a psychology professional’s client? With whom does a psychology professional have a professional relationship? Do psychology professionals have any professional (as opposed to “moral”) obligations to suspects?

Technology and strategic position

Apple Inc. is known for its state-of-the-art designs for products such as the iPhone, but most are unaware that Apple has used technology to streamline its supply chain management and operational systems to provide competitive pricing. This use of technology has allowed the company to under price its competitors and yet maintain a 25 percent margin on their products. The use of IT has provided Apple with a strategic and competitive position which most of their competitors find difficult to match or exceed.

Using your company or a real-world example from your research, analyze how information systems affect the firm’s strategic and competitive position.

Using the assigned readings and  online library resources, explain how information technology:

  • Impacts competitive rivalry, such as pricing, promotion, and distribution
  • Enables or dissuades new entrants
  • Enables customers to achieve greater bargaining power
  • Enables suppliers to gain more bargaining power
  • Gives rise to substitute products or services that threaten the existing market

Give reasons and examples from your research to support your responses.Write your initial response in approximately 300 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
