You are the principal of Communication Excellence, a consultancy specialising in providing business executives with advice on improving their organisation's communication skills.

You are the principal of Communication Excellence, a consultancy specialising in providing business executives with advice on improving their organisation’s communication skills. TelCell, a telephony company, has engaged you to develop a report to improve communication effectiveness supporting their fledgling Customer Relations Management (CRM) program.

As a starting point, you have been asked to identify how to break down communication barriers. From discussions with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TelCell, Ms Anjali Stone, you determine that there are several elements, which need to be addressed:

  • active listening to reduce communication barriers;
  • negotiation techniques which could be used to assist effective customer complaint resolution; and
  •  customer dissatisfaction (which has been increasing, in the company’s showrooms, call centres and online customer service).

After an initial investigation, your analysis reveals that staff on the front-line of customer contact requires professional development to assist them in closing the gap that exists between TelCel’s previous approach to customer service and CRM in resolving customer grievances for the mutual benefit of the customer and the organisation.

Your report will discuss these topics and make recommendations to assist TelCel to improve its CRM through more effective staff communication, negotiation and complaint resolution skills.

Prepare a formal report which:

  • Explains CRM and the skills and techniques associated with it, specifically, active listening, negotiation, and dealing with customer complaints.
  • Makes recommendations on how TelCell can improve CRM.

Note: You are able to embellish the above scenario by adding any contextual details you may require to support your report.

An Independent Judiciary

In Federalist No. 78, Alexander Hamilton wrote:

. . .liberty can have nothing to fear from the judiciary alone, but would have every thing to fear from its union with either of the other departments; . . . that as nothing can contribute so much to its firmness and independence as permanency in office, this quality may therefore be justly regarded as an indispensable ingredient in its constitution, and, in a great measure, as the citadel of the public justice and the public security.

Do you agree or disagree with Hamilton? Why? Cite a specific US Supreme Court opinion that exemplifies the reasons for your position.

Antecedents of Target Marketing

Unit 5 Assignment

Assignment: Antecedents of Target Marketing

In this Assignment, you will discuss antecedents of target marketing as they relate to the video case study on Numi Organic Tea. The video case study on Numi Organic Tea describes how the company’s sampling program helps position the Numi Organic Tea brand with its target markets. The brand’s premium position ties naturally into the customer outlined in the film, but Numi is also interested in expanding outside of the major tea drinker into more casual tea drinkers. To watch the video case study: Numi Organic Tea, Click Here.

Using research from Chapter 8, answer the questions on Numi Organic Tea in the template provided. You can access the Assignment template in Doc Sharing.

The Impact of Cinematography and Editing Options

Explore movie clips from the Movieclips website or the Internet Movie Database –IMDB. Choose a clip that you wish to analyze. The clip you choose must be from a film (preferably from a film with which you are familiar) – not a film trailer or a mash-up. Re-watch your chosen movie clip while closely observing the mise en scène, making sure to analyze the placement and movement of characters and props in the scene as they relate to camera shots, color, and lighting, and other elements of cinematography.

In your discussion, analyze at least three elements of cinematography and editing (e.g., lighting, color, shots, focus, transitions, and types of cuts) by evaluating the dramatic impact of the scene. Interpret the scene based on your analysis. In your view, what mood, symbolism, or meaning results from the scene’s creative editing and cinematography?

Include the name or partial name of the film clip you analyzed in the “Subject” line of your discussion.  Include the link to your film clip in the body of your post. Your initial post should be at least 200 words in length. Support your claims with examples from the required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references. By Day 7, respond to at least two classmates who reviewed a different clip than your own. After watching the movie clips reviewed by your classmates, compare how the scenes would be different had the editors or cinematographers chosen other options. Each response should be a minimum of 125 words.

Categories and Functions of Sound

Review the General Instructions for your blog post before beginning.

As we have been discussing, the mise en scène of a film is the use of a variety of design elements to create the visual theme. Last week, we examined how different lighting styles and choices affected the final impact of a film. This week, we will consider different types of sound at work in film and assess how they contribute to the overall sense of meaning in a film.

There are many types of sound in a film. Some are diegetic (sounds that are represented as coming from within the world of the film); others are non-diegetic (sounds that come from outside the world of the film). Using specific examples from your chosen film, construct a blog post in which you:

  1. Describe each of the three basic categories of sound (dialogue, sound effects, and music).
  2. Explain how the different categories of sound are being used in your chosen film.
  3. Assess the impact of sound in establishing the theme.
    • How does the use of sound inform the mood of the scene, or the film overall?
    • Can you identify specific sounds in your film that allow you to infer a particular genre?
    • Since each category of sound may produce a range of effects, how might you characterize the effects in your film? For example, realistic and expected sound effects may have a different effect on a viewer than exaggerated or unexpected ones.
  4. Assess how the scene or sequence would play differently if you changed or removed a key category of sound.

You must use at least two outside sources, in any combination of embedded video clips, still photos, or scholarly sources. All sources should be documented in APA style, as outlined by the Ashford Writing Center. It is suggested that you approach this blog by focusing your attention on the same film you will write about in your Week Three Assignment. To submit this blog, you will be required to post a link to the specific blog entry in the discussion forum. You are encouraged to explore your classmates’ blogs, but no replies are required.

A few of the reasons that ethics is important when it comes to research because it gives the research credibility and gives it value…….

In this discussion board we are going to discuss why ethics is a vital component of research. First I am going to describe what ethics is, ethics is the moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or in my words do what is right no matter what.

A few of the reasons that ethics is important when it comes to research because it gives the research credibility and gives it value when people look at the work that you have done and not think that it has come from an untrustworthy source. The second thing that ethics in research promote is values that help different people and organizations to work together because a lot of times a research project has more than just one person working on it and using values will instill trust and respect among co-researchers. Another reason ethics is important in research is making sure that you give credit to the data, patent, authorship and peer review source so you do not infringe or plagiarize their work which makes your research not as trustworthy. The third reason is to make the researcher accountable to the public what this means is that the public investors who trust there money with these researchers are held accountable, pretty self explanatory. The next is public support. This means that if you are trustworthy it will be easier for the public to trust that you will do the right thing when it comes to conducting your research. Lastly is moral and social values, what this means is you take in to consideration the rights and welfare of the environment, the humans in the area, and the animals under governed regulations.

In conclusion, having good ethics means having good values that you have incorporated into your research. The biggest thing about ethics in research or even ethics period is doing the right thing no matter what. It is easy for people to do the right thing when people are looking, but can those same people do the right thing when no one is looking or even around? That is the million dollar question, and in the end depending on what you are working on your research can be the difference between life and death or even just causing physical harm to someone or something.

Essay #2

Over the years, ethics has become a critical aspect of research. Two events that played significant roles in the consensus for stronger ethical research guidelines were the Nuremberg War Crimes Trial following World War II and the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. The Nuremberg trials consisted of the German scientists performing gruesome experiments on captive human subjects and the Tuskegee study involved withholding effective treatment methods for African Americans who were purposefully infected with the Syphilis virus. (Trochin, 2006) These events paved the way for discussion on the need for anyone doing research to abide by ethical principles that protect those being researched.

There are many principals within research where ethical conduct plays a part. They are voluntary participation, informed consent, risk of harm, confidentiality, anonymity and right to service. (Trochin, 2006) Voluntary participation is pretty self-explanatory; people should not be coerced into doing something that they don’t want to do. Informed consent simply means that participants are informed about all aspects of the research, not just the ones that will get them to participate. People need to know everything about the research before making the decision to participate. They also need to know what their risk of harm is. Will this research hurt them either physically or mentally? As with all research, confidentiality is important to participants. They need to know that their identity will not be given freely to those who are not directly involved in the study. A stricter version of confidentiality is anonymity. This simply means that the participants will remain anonymous to even the researchers themselves. Finally, there is the right to service which means the control group who is not actually receiving the treatment may feel they are not getting the same service as those who in the control group who are receiving the treatment. All of these principles must be looked at and adhered to when conducting research.

If in doubt, there is an avenue available for researches to verify that their research is ethically acceptable. When this questions exists, researches can submit their research to the Institutional Review Board, or IRB. (Trochim, 2006.) The IRB will review the proposal and decide if it meets the ethical requirements of research. This review not only protects the researcher, but also those being researched.

Global Influences of Western Mental Illness Research

Due to the ever-evolving technology, particularly related to the Internet and cell phones, our world is becoming better and better connected across oceans, continents, and cultures. There are many benefits to this increased connectedness. However, there are some negative effects, as well. One example is the effect that Western society is having on Far Eastern societies’ expressions of certain forms of mental illnesses.

In the article “The Americanization of Mental Illness” (Watters, 2010), the author discusses how the symptoms of anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder, were different in China than in the Western countries. A psychiatrist and researcher, Dr. Sing Lee, was studying this Chinese version of the eating disorder, which did not have much in common with the Western version. The Chinese with anorexia did not seem to diet or fear becoming fat, as most in the West do. Instead, they seemed to complain mainly of bloated stomachs. In 1994, in the midst of his research, a teenage girl in Hong Kong died after fainting on a city street. The death was in the news, and reporters wrote about the death by citing the DSM from the United States. Their widespread publication of those symptoms in light of this girl’s death seems to have begun a change in how the illness is now expressed in China. Now, more individuals are developing Western-style symptoms consistent with the DSM list of criteria. It seems the Western definition has traveled to China and has begun to transform how that illness is expressed there.

Review this article at the following:

Based on your analysis of the article, the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, respond to the following:

  • The DSM has been developed primarily by Western psychiatrists, based on research involving Western patients. What are the possible negative outcomes of the continued spread of the DSM definitions of mental illness across the globe to other cultures?
  • What risks are involved with applying Western diagnoses to children and adolescents from non-Western cultures? Identify at least two risks, and explain the potential negative effects in detail.

Give reasons and examples in support of your answer.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Apply APA standards to citation of sources, including in-text citations and full references. Incorporate information from at least two academic sources to support your statements or ideas. Academic sources could include your textbook, required readings for this module, or academic journal articles found in the AU online library.

By Monday, September 1, 2014, post your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Through Wednesday, September 3, 2014, review and comment on at least two peers’ responses. Provide a statement of clarification, a point of view with rationale, challenge a point of discussion, or draw a relationship between one or more points of the discussion. Consider commenting on the following:

  • Describe positive outcomes that may exist for the spread of the DSMdefinitions to other cultures, if any.
  • Evaluate the negative outcomes presented by your peers.
  • Indicate any outcomes that are unsupported by the required readings.
  • Add to your peers’ lists with ideas of your own.
  • Discuss topics related to the harm of diagnosing children and adolescents without considering cultural factors.
  • Provide interesting resources, Web sites, or references for academic research articles you found during your research. Summarize the researched information for your peers.

Assignment 2: Discussion—Global Influences of Western Mental Illness Research

Family & Community Project-Based Learning

Including families and the community is critical to providing a multicultural learning experience that is applicable and relevant. One way to do this is through project-based learning (PBL) where students engage in critical thinking to address real world issues that face their community. This provides an opportunity for students to create meaningful connections between culture, community, and themselves.

Assignment Instructions:

Using the following template as a guide, create a culturally responsive project for the grade level of your choice that includes parent and community participation.

You may choose to construct this assignment in a table as seen in the template or create separate sections with headings in an essay-format document.

Your Project must include:

  1. Project Title
  2. Content Standard & Objectives (list at least one of each of the following):
  3. Class demographics description: This can either be fictionalized or an outline of your current classroom, but you must include a description of at least two students with a recognized disability and a description of two ELL students (anonymous).
  4. Project idea: A brief summary of your project including previous learning that occurred (prior knowledge) before the project and how the project represents multiculturalism.
  5. Process Description: Write step-by-step directions (see Manage the Process section of template) for this project that you would follow during instruction and present the requirements for your identified class to follow. Remember to use concise language, detailed directions, and as much information as possible as you want to make sure your students complete this project exactly as you intended and envisioned. Your student directions must cover:
    • How parents will be involved in the project
    • How students will connect with their community
    • How technology will be incorporated either in their project search or project presentation
    • How the project aligns with standards and outcomes
  6. Project Evaluation/Evidence of Success:
    • How will students demonstrate mastery of the learning objective
    • How will you measure the student’s success at meeting each outcome and learning objective? Go beyond merely referring to the rubric you will create.
  7. Student Rubrics:
    • Create a rubric that will evaluate the group’s presentation (You may use RubiStar to develop the rubric or develop your own grading tool)
    • Create a separate rubric that will evaluate each student’s individual participation and level of mastery within the group
  8. Personal Reflection: Explain in one page how this project addresses real world issues that face their community as well as how it provides an opportunity for students to create meaningful connections between culture, community, and themselves as well as the role technology plays.

If you create a project based off of a lesson or project you researched or previously used, you must give credit and include in your personal reflection what changes you made to the existing project (there must be changes, you cannot simply recycle something you’ve found) and how it improves student learning.

Additional requirements:

You must include at least two outside scholarly sources such as peer-reviewed articles or journals, in addition to the assigned readings from the text Human Relationships and Learning in the Multicultural Environment. If applicable, also reference to original project if enhancement of an existing project occurred. All sources must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center and included in the final section of the template.

 Probation and Punishment

In preparation for this assignment, please view the Jurisville scenarios and resulting simulations from Weeks 8 through 10 in the Unit 3: Corrections.

In the scenarios and resulting simulations, Robert Donovan, a Jurisville probation officer, discusses the intricacies of probation. Kris, the defendant, is offered an intensive supervised probation plan to follow. Brennan Brooke, a senior criminologist, discusses the tailoring of the inmate to the appropriate facility.

Finally, Orlando Boyce, a sergeant at the fictional Deephall correctional facility, discusses measures that could conceivably make prison life effective and thus decrease the likelihood of recidivism.

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which you:

1. Outline your findings from your review of the file of Kris, for whom

Robert is considering probation.

State whether or not your results from the file review match Robert’s.

Explain two (2) instances in which your views and those of Robert are both similar and different.

2. Develop a profile of the so-called perfect candidate to participate in an intensive supervised probation program. The profile should contain at least three (3) attributes that you believe make this defendant the perfect candidate for this type of probation.

3. Defend or critique the strategy of matching the inmate to the correctional facility as a response to the legal concept of cruel and unusual punishment. Provide a rationale for your position with concrete examples.

4. Defend or critique whether programs and amenities geared to making prison life effective — which run the gamut from hiring extra officers, to counseling and therapy, to building a garden — are time and taxpayer money well spent.

5. Use at least three (4) quality resources in this assignment.

Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

– Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one – inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.

What exactly is stress?

Research and Debate:

1. Do some brief research on the topic of resisting change. What determines whether or not people resist change?

2. Write a brief position paper (250-500 words) setting out your argument (CON: People do NOT naturally resist change.). Your argument must be supported by something more than just your opinion. Use facts from credible sources to make your points. The position paper must comply with APA guidelines, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, textual citations, and reference citations.

What exactly is stress?  What is the difference between so-called “good” stress or so-called “bad” stress?  When it comes to dealing with the stress, does it make any difference whether it is good or bad stress?  Can you separate workplace stress and personal non-work related stress?  What would you say is the difference between anxiety, burnout, stress, and tension?

Case Incident:

Problems at the Hospital
Smith County is a suburban area near a major mid-western city. The county has experienced such a tremendous rate of growth during the past decade that local governments have had difficulty providing adequate service to the citizens.

Smith County Hospital has a reputation for being a first-class facility, but it is inadequate to meet local needs. During certain periods of the year, the occupancy rates exceed the licensed capacity. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the hospital must be expanded immediately.

At a recent meeting of the Hospital Authority, the hospital administrator, Kaye Austin, presented the group with a proposal to accept the architectural plans of the firm of Watkins and Gibson. This plan calls for a 100-bed addition adjacent to the existing structure. Kaye announced that after reviewing several alternative plans, she believed the Watkins and Gibson plan would provide the most benefit for the expenditure.

At this point, Randolph (Randy) Lewis, the board chairperson, began questioning the plan. Randy made it clear he would not go along with the Watkins and Gibson plan. He stated that the board should look for other firms to serve as the architects for the project.

The ensuing argument became somewhat heated, and a 10-minute recess was called to allow those attending to get coffee as well as allow tempers to calm down. Kaye was talking to John Rhodes, another member of the Hospital Authority board, in the hall and said, “Randy seems to fight me on every project.”

Randy, who was talking to other members of the board, was saying, “I know that the Watkins and Gibson plan is good, but I just can’t stand for Kaye to act like it’s her plan. I wish she would leave so we could get a good administrator from the community whom we can identify with.”

Questions (expand on the answers and thoughts)

1. Is Randy’s reaction uncommon? Explain.
2. What type of conflict exists between Kaye and Randy? What might have caused it? 3. What methods would you use to reduce or resolve the conflict?
4. Could Kaye have done anything in advance of the meeting to maximize her chances of success? Explain.
