Discussion Rogerian Therapy

Discussion Rogerian Therapy

Similar to Freud, Carl Rogers developed his theory from his extensive work with his patients. However, unlike Freud, he believed that people are typically healthy; being mentally healthy is the normal state. Although there are unhealthy people, they are not the norm or what one has to accept and live with throughout one’s life. Furthermore, Rogers believed that each person has one primary motivation—to realize his/her full potential or to be self-actualized. Finally, he posited that neurosis stems from incongruence between one’s real self and one’s ideal self. He applied this to his theory of counseling in the development of three therapeutic criteria that he felt were both necessary and sufficient to help the patient. These three qualities are now the foundation for modern person-centered therapy.

The three qualities that form the foundation of Rogerian therapy are empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. These will be relatively easy to express for people you naturally like but can be difficult to express for people whom you do not like nor agree with.

Imagine that you are a psychologist working with a population of individuals that tend to be more difficult to work with, such as sex offenders, elderly patients with dementia, or mentally challenged children. Use the Internet, Argosy University library resources, and your textbook to research the concepts of Rogerian therapy and respond to the following questions:

Realistically, do you think it is possible to be congruent and to extend empathy and unconditional positive regard to these clients in a psychotherapeutic context? Why or why not? How do you think clinicians practicing Rogerian therapy would approach these concepts for these clients? How might Rogerian therapy be a helpful strategy for these clients? Is it possible these concepts of Rogerian therapy could hinder treatment? Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

*SECOND assignment !!!!! Assignment 2: LASA 1: Development Throughout the Lifespan

Erikson and Freud are two of the few theorists who have developed a lifespan approach to development. Freud’s approach to development was psychosexual while Erikson’s was psychosocial. Even though Freud’s theory is better known, Erikson’s theory remains a leading and very much applied model in personality and developmental psychology today.

When considering these two stage-oriented theories, you can directly compare the majority of their stages. These are matched in the following table:

Approximate Age Freud’s Stages of Psychosexual Development Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial development Infancy (Birth to 1 year) Oral stage Trust versus mistrust Early childhood (1–3 years) Anal stage Autonomy versus doubt Preschool (3–6 years) Phallic stage Initiative versus guilt School age (7–11 years) Latent period Industry versus inferiority Adolescence (12–18 years) Genital stage Identity versus role confusion Young adulthood (19–40 years)

Intimacy versus isolation Middle adulthood (40–65 years)

Generativity versus stagnation Older adulthood (65–death)

Integrity versus despair When considering Erikson’s eight stages of development, the way a person moves through each stage directly affects their success in the next stage. Their personality is being built and shaped with each stage. At each stage, there is a turning point, called a crisis by Erikson, which a person must confront.

In this assignment, you will observe or interview two different people, each at a different stage of development. For a third observation, take a look at yourself and the stage that you are in (this stage must be different from your other two observations).

Record your three observations in a template. Include the following information: Name Age Gender Current developmental stage Status within the stage (i.e., identity achievement or role confusion) Events that have lead to this status Download a Development Template from the Doc Sharing area to record your observations.

Summarize what you have learned about psychosocial development through these observations/interviews. Summarize the trends you see in your observations/interviews regarding psychosocial development. How does movement through Erikson’s stages influence personality development? Again, be specific. How do Erikson’s stages of development compare to Freud’s stages? How are they similar? How are they different? Between these two theories, which one do you feel best explains your own personality development? Justify your answers with specific examples. Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Insert your chart at the end of your paper. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

Lisa and Danny are neighbors that live on Guerrero Street. Fifteen years ago Lisa built a gazebo

Lisa and Danny are neighbors that live on Guerrero Street. Fifteen years ago Lisa built a gazebo. She frequently used the gazebo, but she was not aware that actually the gazebo was on property belonging to Danny. A month after the gazebo was built Lisa built a fence between her and Danny’s yard, and the gazebo was on Lisa’s side of the fence. Fifteen years later, Danny has a survey done, and he discovers that the gazebo is on his land. Danny brings a suit to evict Lisa from the land. Does Lisa have a defense? Assume, that the state in question has an adverse possession period of ten years.

Please use the following information Adverse possession is another way that ownership of land may be changed. This method does not require a deed. It occurs where possession of the land is:

Actual and exclusive- This means that the one seeking to gain land through adverse possession must actually possess the land. And the adverse possessor must do so exclusively. Open, visible and notorious—This requirement protects owners of the land by requiring the adverse possessor to make their presence on the land knowable. Ordinarily, this requires the adverse possessor to use the land in a manner that it is customarily used. Continuous and peaceable for the requisite time—This requires a certain continuity. The amount of time differs from state to state. It is anywhere from 5-20 years ordinarily, and this time is set by statute. Hostile and adverse—The hostility requirement requires the adverse possessor’s interest to be inconsistent with the owner’s interest. In practice, this means that the owner has not given the one claiming adverse possession permission to be on the land (as in the case of a tenant/landlord situation).

The Corporate Rundown

The Corporate Rundown

The following are specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment: • Use technology and information resources to research issues in advanced financial management. • Write clearly and concisely about advanced financial management using proper writing mechanics.

Introduction: • At the risk of repeating ourselves, let’s let Mr. Charlie Munger, co-chairman of Berkshire- Hathaway, say his piece on the power of financial incentives once more: “Never, ever think about something else when you should be thinking about the power of incentives.” Of course, we agree, and we want you to learn how to evaluate financial incentives that you’ll discover in the corporate world. We also want you to be able to assess relatively strong and weak corporate governance systems. That’s the crux of this final assignment. • First, what we’d like you to do is to identify a public company (preferably one that you’re familiar with from prior assignments). Then, we’d like you to examine and analyze its governance principles, structures, and practices. • We firmly believe that the effective financial decision-maker will understand the power that governance and strong systems have over financial performance, and thus it’s important to train ourselves to be acutely aware of these issues. Here’s how we recommend approaching the assignment: o Head to edgar.sec.gov to access your company’s financial statements (or any site where you feel comfortable accessing your company’s financial statements, including the company’s own homepage). o Pull up the proxy statement (it’s also called the 14A, the DEF14A, and occasionally the PRE14A). o Read the statement in its entirety and reflect.

Write a 3-4 page paper in which you do the following: 1. Determine whether the board seems appropriately constituted. Are these people qualified to be governing a business of this type? (Read their bios and even Google them for more info.) 2. Assess the committees the board members sit on. Are they appropriately staffed? 3. Assess the management. How long have they been with the company? What is their relative experience? 4. Evaluate the board’s philosophy on executive compensation. 5. Discuss the metrics tied to the CEO’s inventive compensation. Are they sound metrics or not? 6. Determine if compensation is reasonable considering the company’s financial performance. 7. Determine if related-party transactions (sometimes called “transactions with related parties”) exist, and if they do, whether they are reasonable.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS The material for your final project will be built throughout the course.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS The material for your final project will be built throughout the course. The purpose of the Interpersonal Communication Project is twofold: (1) to develop an interpersonal communication design that will demonstrate an appreciation for maintaining an accurate awareness of needs and resources while seeking to develop healthy, healing, and holy relationships and, (2) to demonstrate your ability to compose and deliver an oral message with clear and purposeful content that is effectively organized. You will be responsible for recording (via video) yourself giving a lecture presenting a corresponding PowerPoint presentation. The video lecture will be uploaded to YouTube, and the PowerPoint presentation must be submitted through the assignment link.

Interestingly, while Bridges Not Walls lays the foundation for the final project, the self-teaching guide Listening: The Forgotten Skill will provide the basic structure (sections). You will utilize these categories: 1. Introduction; 2. Identification of an overarching goal (OAG) for your life and definition of enlarging the conversation. With an OAG or a master goal, you will be able to influence the process of enlarging a particular conversation within your interpersonal arena. This is being brought to your attention now with the hope of influencing the entire learning journey in HSCO 508; 3. Description of how your background and behavioral blend have influenced your conversation (positively and negatively); 4. Defining the potential barriers in your interpersonal context and how you are going to deal with each one; 5. Identifying and providing solutions to noise pollution both internally and externally; and 6. Action Plan: Discuss what actions you will take in order to make your personal communication goals a reality.

The language that you use must be familiar to the audience, appropriate for the setting, and incorporates the language developed in the course. Also, be sure to have an exceptional level of critical thinking and interaction with the subject matter; synthesize the literature.

This project must draw from all of the required texts, self-assessments, practical book review, and at least 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles (total, there are 6 required course sources and 2 journal sources). These are to be cited in a bibliography slide at the conclusion of your PowerPoint (which does not count toward your total number of slides).

You will be responsible for recording a video lecture and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation (to be viewed simultaneously). The delivery of the video lecture must: 1. Enhance the message and demonstrate a commitment to the topic and a willingness to communicated, 2. Be consistent between the vocal tone/style and the message/context, and 3. Utilize clear articulation and pronunciation.

The video lecture will be uploaded to YouTube, and the PowerPoint presentation will be submitted through the assignment link. The video lecture will be recorded using a digital video recorder or similar device. In order to post the separate video lecture for your instructor to review, follow the instructions below (see the YouTube Help page for assistance): 1. Set up a personal user account on www.YouTube.com (if you do not have one already); 2. Download your video lecture to your computer; 3. Upload your video lecture onto YouTube; and 4. Once your video is uploaded and processed, copy the link for your YouTube video and paste it into the assignment box in Blackboard.

YouTube can take up to 1 hour to successfully upload a video (depending on your bandwidth and the site traffic). Once your video is successfully uploaded, YouTube will process your video in order to make it available for viewing. Since both uploading and processing can take an indeterminate amount of time, plan ahead so that you are able to post your video by the required deadline. It is highly recommended that you allow a window of at least 4 hours prior to the deadline in order to allow time for any potential issues that may slow your upload and processing. Also, keep in mind that your video must not exceed 10 minutes.

The PowerPoint presentation that you create needs to correspond with the video lecture because your instructor will be viewing both simultaneously. Therefore, as you record your lecture, you will need to use verbal cues to indicate to your audience to advance to the next slide. Your PowerPoint presentation must be a maximum of 20 slides addressing the 6 sections detailed above. (The bibliography slide at the conclusion does not add to the total.)

REFLECTIVE JOURNALING ENTRIES INSTRUCTIONS The Goal

REFLECTIVE JOURNALING ENTRIES INSTRUCTIONS The Goal: The goal of reflective journaling is to interact with and assimilate information that is particularly meaningful to your interpersonal arena in an attempt to discover resources and/or solutions that will empower communication and connection in your relational context. Meaningfulness may be determined by particular information providing a general understanding, interpretation, and/or application regarding your overall context. Meaningful moments may also be experienced when a learning activity empowers you to identify, understand, and interpret personal need(s) that may provide a truth, insight, and/or technique to resource that personal need(s) at the same time. This is not to be the same material discussed in the Discussion Board Forums.

Journaling: Journaling is similar to taking notes while moving through all of the reading and learning activities. If you have ever kept a journal such as a travelogue, journaling is similar except that you are interacting with the material you are reading rather than journaling about places and/or people. You may also interact with points made by others in the Discussion Board Forums as they impact your learning. The dynamic of this experiential research approach is its requirement to listen, learn, and launch the enlarging my conversation (EMC) equation when something is speaking to you in the course readings. Therefore, the key to journaling is in developing the habit of actively drawing from all of the course material and interaction with others in order to apply the EMC equation (Identified Needs + Intentional Resourcing = Enlarging the Conversation). Each journal entry must: • Be identified by module/week and number. • These are personal and reflective. Therefore, they can be written in first person and must be about yourself (not others); they also must be less focused on ideas and more focused on your personal communication as it relates to what you are reading from the course. • Include your name on the title page of the document. • Each entry must be 300–500 words. • Provide a reference point for each entry. For example, a possible reference point may be a quote that is generating reflection: o W1 #1 According to Stewart (2012), “Communication is the continuous, complex, collaborative process of verbal and nonverbal meaning-making” (p. 21). • Define a specific need that you identified through current reading assignment(s) and learning activities. How did the readings provide resources to meet your interpersonal communication needs? • Identify in what ways, if any, that the assessments, presentations, Discussion Board Forums, readings, and exercises thus far present possible contradictions. What conclusions have you drawn as a result of these opposing tensions? A journal entry may be created in order to compare and contrast, or even discuss, a contradiction about a particular issue addressed by the various readings. • What identifiable truths, insights, and techniques has your interactive journaling provided for your particular interpersonal communication needs and for controlling your behavioral blend? • Attempt to integrate a biblical worldview when appropriate. This may involve incorporating an insight or technique from the spiritual disciplines. • Interact, as opportunity presents, with other material in the learning journey. Interaction may be in light of contributions from the various readings and learning activities of this learning journey or another. Assist classmates in making substantial contributions to all of the learning activities. For example, a Discussion Board Forum assignment may benefit from insights logged in the journal. • All journal entries must be typed, double-spaced, spell-checked, proofread, and cited/referenced according to current APA format.

Each Reflective Journaling Entry is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned modules/weeks.

An example of a journal entry:

W1 #1 Nexting versus Nixing Stewart (2012) identified a particular skill called nexting that may help me to overcome my C tendency to be critical (Uniquely You Assessment) and even move to level 3 listening instead of my level 1 and 2 listening propensity for fake listening or hearing just enough to interject my position or argument into the conversation (Burley-Allen, Levels of Listening section – pp. 13–21). I need to remember the definition and comments about this skill:

By nexting I mean something helpful next, responding fruitfully to what’s just happened, taking an additional step in the communication process….Since you realize that communication is complex, continuous, and collaborative, you’ll always recognize that, no matter what’s happened before and no matter how bad things currently look, you always have the option to try a next step. (Stewart, p. 29-30)

Nexting is especially helpful when I realize that my internal conversation does not often think about how I can move the conversation or relationship forward, but more about how I can move someone over to my point of view. Perhaps I need to think about how I can move the conversation up to a new level. As a believer, I can provision the Holy Spirit to help me remember this insight and pursue the good of another rather than what I want (1 Cor. 10:24). In fact, nexting will probably help me to communicate more effectively with my son. BTW, I wonder if some of the other readings ahead are going to provide some techniques to help me check the C-ness of my internal conversation. (note that this is a short example and does not meet the required word length of 300-500 words). Most importantly, depth of personal reflection related to the study should be considered and not number of words.

ou are a portfolio manager for the XYZ investment fund.

You are a portfolio manager for the XYZ investment fund. The objective for the fund is to maximize your portfolio returns from the investments on four alternatives. The investments include (1) stocks, (2) real estate, (3) bonds, and (4) certificate of deposit (CD). Your total investment portfolio is $1,000,000. Investment Returns Based on the returns from the past five years, you concluded that the investment annual returns on stocks are 10%, on real estates are 7% on bonds are 4% and on CD is 1%. Risk Constraints However, you also have to analyze the risks associate with each investment category. A wildly used risk measurement parameter is called Value at Risk (VaR). (Note: VaR measures the risk of loss on a specific portfolio of financial assets.) For example, given a million dollar stock investment, if a portfolio of stocks has a one-day 4% VaR, there is a 5% probability that the stock portfolio will fall in value by more than 1,000,000 * 0.004 = $4,000 over a one day period. In the portfolio, the VaR for stock investments is 6%. Similarly, the VaR for real estate investment is 2% and the VaR for bond investment is 1% and the VaR for investment in CD is 0%. To manage the portfolio, you decided that at 5% probability, your VaR for stocks cannot exceed $25,000, VaR for real estate cannot exceed $15,000, VaR for bonds cannot exceed $2,500 and the VaR for CD investment is $0. Diversification and Liquidity Constraints As a diversified investment portfolio, you also decided that each investment category must hold at least $50,000 of the total investment assets. In addition, you must hold combined CD and bond investment no less than $200,000 in order to meet liquidity requirement. The total amount of real estate holding shall not exceed 30% of the portfolio assets. A. As a portfolio manager, please formulate and solve the investment portfolio problem using linear programming technique. What are the amounts invest in (1) stocks, (2) real estate, (3) bonds and (4) CD? B. If $500,000 additional investments are available to you in your portfolio, how would you invest the capital? C. Would you maintain the portfolio investment if stock yields lowered to 6%? How would you re-distribute your investment portfolio?

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the immediate cause of World War I.

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the immediate cause of World War I. But the events that led to the Great War go further back into the nineteenth century. As with the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, nationalism, imperialism, and militarism all played a part. Analyze how the forces of nationalism, imperialism, and militarism irrevocably led to World War I. Pay particular attention to the rise of Pan-Slavism in Eastern Europe and the corresponding rise of nationalism in German-speaking states. Analyze how the alliance system contributed to the ultimate outbreak of war. Then analyze the events that drew the United States into World War I. Clearly discuss why America first remained neutral between1914-1917. What role did ethnicity play in America’s neutrality? Then identify and analyze the specific events that led to America’s entrance into the war. Evaluate America’s contribution to the war effort and to what extent America’s entry contributed to the end of the war. Finally, analyze the events that led to the defeat of the Treaty of Versailles. What effect did this have on America’s role in the world during the 1920s and 1930s? Pay particular attention to the role of President Woodrow Wilson both during and after the war, in particular, his efforts to establish the League of Nations.
