Global Forms of Organizing – Discussion

 Global Forms of Organizing

Globalization of the workforce is of great importance as more human resources than ever before are crisscrossing the continent together with companies from different locations globally (Hamel, 2006). As more companies outsource labor or set base in countries apart from their own, they face a people of different cultures that may not cohere with their own. As such, diversity in the workforce arises, and if it is not managed correctly, it may lead to an ineffective workforce as the people working together are from very different backgrounds.  Diversity management thus is necessary in such cases to ensure that there is a middle ground where people can work in an environment that fosters harmony and unity. Diversity involves different ways of communication and operating among people of various races. Organizing the way people interact and thus, communicate at the workplaces necessary for any international company. Diversity comes with differences in race, language, gender, religion and culture among others. The company to operate effectively should thus have prior knowledge of how to deal with the different cultures of its workforce. As such, it is important to consider various mechanisms that will help improve on the issue of diversity in organizations. Creating global skilled people is another development that that will assist in the management of a diverse workforce. The globally trained people will help to ensure that the work environment among people who are of different cultures is harmonized and hence ensure that activities run smoothly in the organization (Christiansen & Sezerel, 2013). Different organization strategies can be employed to assist the workforce to work as a team. It is, therefore, important to ensure that diversity is managed properly to prevent any incidents that may negatively affect the operations of a global multinational or small businesses that are set up abroad.

Diversity management is thus an important part of any business that has international operations. Cultural intelligence comes into play especially where a company seeks to understand how certain people operate in their daily undertakings. What is permissible in certain cultures may not be in others. Like in Saudi Arabia women, employees are not allowed to wear like their counterparts in western countries and as such, a company in such a country should ensure that it does not give a dress code that will put in conflict with the leadership in place (Bassett‐Jones, 2005).  The company or business in place should be aware of the differences that exist among its workforce because of disagreements in the ways of life of individual people. Some of the strategies the company can use are like training the labor force on diversity and coexisting together in harmony to promote teamwork. The leadership is mostly important in ensuring that diversity is used successfully to meet the goals of the business. Leaders can link diversity to performance and hence help to improve the performance of the organization (Deshwal & Choudhary, 2011). Accountability to diversity among leaders makes them responsible for ensuring that they focus more on putting place strategies that will improve performance due to a cohesive working environment. Engaging in succession planning which helps the organization to source a qualified workforce from the available pool of labor both locally and internationally. Diversity training is another option that helps in educating staff and the management of the importance of handling diverse to improve on the success of operations in the company. Furthermore, middle the organization should significantly involve middle management, which mostly deals with the workforce to improve on diversity management. It is, therefore, important to address various facts that face the current workforce especially the ever-increasing gap in skills.

The necessary importance of international orientation is an important form of organizing the workforce in international and global companies. Global and international organizations are greatly advantaged by international orientation. International orientation is thus an essential constituent of international operations especially of international businesses or global corporations (Romanenko, 2011). The international and global companies can thus use the international orientation to ensure that they acclimatize with to the international business environment. The orientation helps the companies to be culturally well informed and prepare for the diverse workforce. Such companies like coca cola can use international orientation on startup in new countries.  International orientation is thus important in ensuring that a company such as Coca Cola has efficiency in dealing with foreign markets.
