I50 Years of President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) Legacy

Abraham Lincoln, the United States 16th president by assassination, accomplishments and virtue of his acts has secured a position in the history of America, which has never been challenged by any other national leader. As the Commander in Chief in the interstates civil war, Emancipation Proclamation author and laws reformer, Lincoln will be associated forever with hard won individual freedoms, the 13th amendment of the constitution and civil rights. Lincoln fought for the Union preservation and against secession. He therefore saved the union and enhanced the freeing of slaves despite of strong opposition by the south. Lincoln believed in the principles of equity, liberty and democracy. Thus, saving of Union acted as a way of declaring freedom and independence for future generations and democracy vindication. Freeing of slaves gave ex-slaves the power to fight for their position as equal human being in the society. With this power, they were able to obtain rights to vote, an act whose impact has been felt in the United States even today. This facilitated many more changes in the country that include provision of more constitutional rights to minorities in the united States that include the inclusion of antidiscrimination law. All these civil rights which were attained after the death of Lincoln were fueled by his effort and acts during his time as the President of U.S. According to historians, Lincoln handled the crisis that occurred while he was in power as the President in a manner that no other president could have managed. The outcome could have been very different and negative if another individual was in power them. Lincoln was able to accomplish so much in history despite of so many crisis during his time as the President of the United States of America. In this regard, Lincoln shall forever be celebrated for his legacy shall live forever.
