Theory Of Deuteronomistic History – Theology Paper

Briefly describe the theory of deuteronomistic History. For each edition you should discuss the approximate date and compilation, the reasons/purposes for which the edition was done and the people or power responsible for the edition

The deuteronomistic theory entails the slave and suffering were God’s punishment for the disobedience of the Israelites. The deuteronomistic history is found in various books of the old testament that include the books of kings, Samuel, Joshua and Deuteronomy. Two editions are associated with the deuteronomistic history especially about the kings in the time of Josiah, the Josainic edition and the second edition while the Israelites were in exile. The Josianic editions was written during the early 7th century to late 8th century. The writers of the editions were Jeremiah the prophet, Nehemiah, Micah, Habakkuk, Isaiah. Other writers who worked on the deuteronomistic history were St. Augustine who contributed greatly to the theory especially by writing the city of God during Constantine is where Rome had been declared Christian. He lived in the fifth century before 430 AD. Joachim was another theologian who wrote history while trying to include God in the writings of that time. Most writings in the history were did no have God but included mostly the various accomplishment by different empires like the Roman Empire. Different authors came up to rectify the history and include God in the writings especially in the theology cycles. As such, the historians provided more information during the times of the Roman Empire especially the time of Jesus. Martin North further helped in coming up with the theory of deuteronomony and further established the work as unified. The books therefore follow a succession of events in accordance with the historical timelines in the bible. As such, the different authors showed the various events that happened in the historical times associated with deuteronomistic theory to give more information on the sequence of events. The Deuteronomist history thus provided more information about God and thus helped in ensuring that people learnt God in history together with the biblical writings.

He spoke of three ages, which were the age of the father, of the son and of the Holy Spirit. He did most of his work in history in the 12th century. The ages or dispensation was different where the age of the father was of fear and judgment.
