Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Evidence-based practices improve the quality of healthcare and patient’s results and at the same time reduce costs and address various obstacles to EBP, which persist in healthcare settings. Additionally, evidence-based practice is known as a key factor in satisfying the Triple Aim in healthcare, which has expanded to the Quadruple Aim. For an evidence-based practice to be successfully adopted and sustained, healthcare providers recognized that caregivers and policymakers must adopt it (Crabtree et al., 2016). National, state, resident, and other supervisory activities are essential for the adoption of EBP. Most physicians in various healthcare systems have a positive attitude towards evidence-based care providers and are ready to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to adopt evidence-based practices (Sikka et al., 2015). Enhancing the work life of healthcare givers can be measured through metrics focusing on staff engagement and protection.

The main goals of meeting the Quadruple Aim in healthcare are to reduce healthcare costs, provide quality care to patients, and improve the population’s health and nurses’ work life. It also aims towards redesigning the healthcare facilities. According to Crabtree et al. (2016), the key problem facing the healthcare system is promoting the health of the population while decreasing healthcare costs. However, there are various barriers to this goal, such as cultures that do not support EBP, healthcare practitioners’ inadequate knowledge of EBP, outdated organizational policies, and workplace violence among others (Melnyk, 2016).

Impact of Evidence-Based Practice on the Quadruple Aim

The introduction of evidence-based practice aims at improving the quality of service as well as increasing the value of patient care. The quality of services is associated with the productivity of the staff. All healthcare facilities aim to improve their patients’ lives.

Patient Experience

This measure mainly involves enhancing the quality of care that patients receive. Nurses have an obligation to monitor patient’s conditions and educate patients as a means of providing quality care to them. Moreover, an improved patient experience attracts more educated patients who understand their conditions and are equipped with the necessary tools to manage their personal care better and improve results.

Population Health

Population health can be defined as the health outcome of various persons as well as the distribution of those outcomes within the set. The individuals being considered may differ based on a person’s outlook and aims. In addition, it is important to separate the residents according to the level of support they will obtain from several attendants, which will allow effective distribution of resources (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2019). Lastly, population health gives a chance for health care organizations and establishments to work together to improve the well-being of the people they serve.

Costs

Healthcare facilities are faced with the challenge of providing high-quality medical services at a lower cost. Most institutions use discounts and evaluations to calculate the real charges to achieve better outcomes and enhanced patient care while simultaneously reduce the per capita cost of healthcare. The goal of improving the health of patients is to ensure that the individuals do not need to visit the hospitals as frequently, the result of which would be affordable healthcare.
