Description of Problem
For a long time, there has been a need for making nurses aware of the outcomes, especially the outcomes relating to their clients. Especially, the nurses should be informed of the adverse impacts of their uncivil behaviors in patient care adequately.
Significance of Problem
From the mid-1990s, the appreciation of off-putting workplace conducts has gone up significantly according to Lutgen-Sandvik, Tracy and Alberts (2007). The conducts include usage of abusive language, employee intimidation, sexual abuse, and usage of ethnic or racial slurs against others. Others are criticizing or shaming teams in the presence of others, physical abuses, and threatening others with job loss, violence, retribution or litigation according to Porto and Lauve (2006). According to the outcomes of a given poll, 89% off all Americans view incivility as a grave social challenge. As well, the outcomes show that 78% of all Americans view incivility as having worsened in recent decades (Marks, 1996). The challenge typifies every workplace, its setting notwithstanding. Nurses are increasingly being harassed psychologically at work.

Various databases were searched was the university’s library. The other databases were EBSCO, CINAHL, and MEDLINE. Others were Nursing Reference Center and eBooks Medical Featured Collections. The databases had articles focusing on how the effectiveness of the patient care offered by nurses is dependent on the nurses’ civility.
The researcher chose the articles in had at least three of the search words indicated above. As well, the researcher chose the articles published during the last five years. The researcher chose the articles that would allow ample insights into the most recent research relating to the topic.
