Over the years, environmental factors have played a significant role as far as the health of human beings is concerned. In this regard, it has become vital to protect the environment as one of the ways to build a healthy society. Notably, health practitioners like nurses and other officials have made efforts to collaborate with individuals, communities, government agencies, and industries to reduce or eliminate any health-related complications or barriers which result from environmental factors. According to Wells, Evans, and Cheek (2016), environmental factors have become a source of barriers to healthy human beings. As a result, a lot of people, especially those who deal with health issues, play an important role in the improvement and elimination of environmental barriers to a healthy living.
It is impossible for human beings to live without a regular interaction with environmental factors. In most cases these factors refer to all the physical, chemical, and biological factors that affect human beings and their day to day activities. In this sense, environmental factors are usually diverse and far-reaching. Examples of environmental factors that impact on the health of human beings include: exposure to substances in the air, water, soil, and foods, climate change, occupational and job-related hazards, natural and technological factors as well as the built environment (Qiu & He, 2018). Furthermore, the issue of climate change has been one of the contentious topics due to its effect on health worldwide. Additionally, poor working conditions have played a role in affecting the health of human beings (Qiu & He, 2018).
Several actions and incentives are required to eliminate environmental barriers to a healthy living. As human beings we play an important role in ensuring that the environmental factors are not the sources of any health-related complications. One of the ways to make a difference is being on the forefront to protect the environment from various types of pollutions. One of the reasons for poor health due to environmental factors is pollution (Qiu & He, 2018). In order to protect the environment, one must be willing to avoid engaging in any pollution-related activities either as an individual or as a member of an organization or family. More so, one can also contribute by advocating and teaching others to protect the environment. Another method to eliminate the environmental barriers to a healthy living is acting through promoting safety and healthy working conditions. One of the environmental barriers to a healthy living is also an aspect of occupational and job-related hazards (Qiu & He, 2018).
For example, one should be willing to criticize organizations that have not developed the strategies that prevent their waste from getting into the environment through the soil, air, or, water, among others. For example, a company like the coca Cola plants in India has been accused of disposing its waste into water bodies (Jacobsen, 2014). More so, organizations must put strategies to ensure that their environment is not a health risk to employees and the neighboring communities. In addition, the elimination of environmental barriers to health can be achieved through ensuring that the vulnerable groups of the society are protected from hazardous environmental factors. For example, young children and old people are more likely to suffer health complications when exposed to certain substances or products. In this sense, one can protect their health by ensuring they are not exposed to substances such as dust.
The health of human beings is hugely influenced by environmental factors worldwide. Notably, factors such as an exposure to substances in the air, water, soil, and foods, climate change, occupational and job-related hazards, among others, have significant impacts on people’s health. As a result, human beings have a duty to eliminate environmental barriers to a healthy living. All in all, they can prolong their lifetime by making sure that their surrounding environmental factors are safe.
