Feasibility Study Concept Sample Paper

Feasibility Study Concept Paper Instructions

The primary purpose of the Concept Paper is to obtain instructor feedback to ensure that you are on track with the completion of your feasibility study. The complete instructions for the feasibility study can be found in Week Six of the online course.

The Concept Paper is a draft version of your Final Paper with the initial list of references. In this draft, be certain to include and (at least) briefly address the content of the headings listed in the Final Paper instructions for Week Six. You must include a preliminary SWOT analysis for your chosen project. For further assistance, please view the Feasibility Study Template video and view the online article “Community Assessment,” both of which include specific information on elements of the SWOT analysis required for your final paper. Remember, your concept paper is a draft, NOT the final product. Submit your Concept Paper with the required headings to your instructor by the end of this week. Be sure to review the article, “Assessing the Feasibility, Performance of Geriatric Clinics,” for further information as you complete your assignment. Be certain to include your list of references with your draft.

Feasibility Study Topic and Areas of Interest (Urgent Care Extension)

Topic: Adding an urgent care center (UCC) to the Wellness Plan Family Practitioner clinic to reduce the strain on the one ER’s and neighboring walk-in clinics.

Introduction

Urgent care is becoming so popular in adding the emergency rooms (ER) and the communities around them in providing care for minor illnesses. Most people who go to the ER for minor colds, cuts, and bruises spend the most time in the emergency room because patients with major illnesses are priority. “Urgent care facilities are a growing force in the United States healthcare industry, specifically designed to provide immediate care for non-life-threatening medical conditions. These medical walk in clinics can be found in a number of locations, ranging from free-standing buildings to medical plazas and even retail centers” (Immediate Clinic, 2014). Urgent care centers have a big impact the quality, accessibility, availability, and affordable care.

Quality of Care

Urgent care centers provide just about the same quality of care as most doctors offices and ER’s. UCC’s  provide many services like; pain management, fracture care, primary care, routine school and sport physicals, and immunizations. Seven out of ten center’s provide intravenous fluids if needed. In addition, nearly half of urgent care centers (48.6%) provide prescription pharmaceuticals that are pre-packaged for dispensing a full course of treatment in doctors’ offices rather than in pharmacies (“point-of-care” dispensing) (Weinick, Bristol, & DesRoches, 2009).

Availability and Accessibility

Urgent care centers are popping all over United States. Urgent care centers reduce the strain on local doctor’s offices, ER’s, and walk-in clinics. This urgent care center is greatly needed on the North east side of Detroit Michigan an area where there is not many urgent care clinics or ER’s within that neighborhood. The Wellness Plan family practitioners have some open space within their building that would be the perfect place to add on an urgent care center because they serve over half of the community around it and has such long wait times because they are the only walk-in clinic in the neighborhood. This add on will bring jobs to the community, reduce the wait time for the walk-in clinic, bring more resources to the community. Urgent care centers fill an access gap by providing walk-in care, especially during evening and weekend hours, for patients without a primary care physician or those unable to schedule a timely PCP appointment (Yee, Lechner, & Boukus, 2013). Furthermore, urgent care centers are open 24 hours or from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Affordable Care

Additionally, most urgent care centers accept health insurance plans to cover payment and also charge rates considerably lower than the co-pays at emergency rooms (Immediate Clinic, 2014).

Conclusion

Every community has need for something that will help improve the community or bring more resources to the community that will keep consumers healthy. UCC provide care to people who do not want to wait in long ER’s or doctor’s offices but will receive about the same quality of care for minor illnesses. The urgent care centers are popping up all over the place making the access to care easily available. Furthermore, the average cost per patient in the UCC is less expensive oppose to the emergency rooms.
