Main Causes of Threats To The Environment and the Quest for a Green Society

There are different triggers, or causes, of the factors that threaten the environments and the related efforts aimed at establishing green societies. They include the continued excessive usage of nonrenewable resources such as fossil fuels along with metals. Another trigger is pollution. There are different types of pollution, including land degradation via deforestation and desertification; and environmental degradation via chemical, water, radiation, solid waste, and air pollution. Another cause comprises of some of the cultural practices and persuasions that give rise to environmental problems. For example, many cultures continue holding that nature comprises of an unlimited store of specific resources that human resources can exploit indefinitely. Such cultures take nature as only existing to serve human populations with its inexhaustible and free resources. Varied cultures have marked faith in technologies that harm the environment. In such cultures, people view specific technologies as handy in helping them conquer nature. Some cultures are defined by growth ethics and materialism, which are associated with the over exploitation of the environment. Capitalist economies are a structural source of some of the factors that threaten the environments and the related efforts aimed at establishing green societies (Thiele, 2013).
