Materiel acquisition intelligence collection involves acquisition of hardware that may be useful in law enforcement. Hardware in this case includes large items such as integrated circuit chips and computer chips. Examples of materiel acquisition intelligence collection are classified based on the method of acquisition used. Materiel acquisition can be carried out using two different methods namely overt acquisition and clandestine acquisition. Overt acquisition involved the capture of equipment as a result of combat. Example of overt acquisition is the Bruneval Raid of 1941. Clandestine acquisition is used when the opponent is not aware of the whole operation at all.
