Personal Worldview
Nursing in my worldview is a calling from God to ensure wholeness and healing of those who are sick or in pain. It is involve the responsibility of applying acquired knowledge and skills in care to relief others from pain and distress. Nursing entails taking responsibility for continuing growth in human connection, character development, and compassion. To grow in nursing art, a nurse needs to be willing to handle the broken parts of their lives by addressing personal weaknesses and working toward personal changes and growth to be able to address the problems of other people.

The personal growth accountability is attained by use of healing resources made accessible by God, prayers and faith. Being kind to the patient, caring for them, listening to them, understanding their pain and showing concern, compassion, love and care can be more healing than use of any form of medication. As a nurse one should strive to ensure personal growth to be able to offer holistic care for those who need help through developing human connection, developing a relation of trust, respecting people’s beliefs in healthcare and wellness, giving them hope, and applying acquired knowledge and skills to improve quality of life of those who are suffering.
Nursing Theory
The selected nursing theory is Watson nursing theory. Watson nursing theory postulates that nursing care outspreads past human contact and centers on the patient’s soul instead. The theory is based on the principle that when a nurse takes care of a patient, the nurse gets into the patient’s life space and spiritually detects his or her condition. Therefore, the nurse forms an attachment with the patient at deeper level spiritually. The theory centers on holistic approach of care rather than treatment plan and pathology (Ozan, Okumus & Lash, 2015). According to Watson, the disease may be cure, though illness would persist since health is not achieved without caring. Caring in Watson theory is a principle of nursing which signifies responsiveness between the nurse and the patient.

The major elements of Watson nursing theory include the caritas process, caring moment or caring occasion, the transpersonal relationship of caring and the caritas processes (Pajnkihar, Stiglic & Vrbnjak, 2017). The caritas presses include practicing equanimity, love and kindness in a caring context. It also advocates for being authentic, sustaining and permitting for the deep system of belief and personal world, where one is cared for. Caritas processes also require taking part in genuine teaching, developing a healing environment, helping with basic needs, as well as attending and opening to spiritual mysteries. The process also permits existential and unknown dimensions of all changes in life that change fortunes or change of circumstances to allow for miracles (Bayuo, 2017).

The main similarity between the Watson nursing theory and my personal worldview in nursing is that the two advocate for intensive care that does not only focusing on eliminating the disease symptoms but also on addressing the patient’s needs holistically. The two advocate for offering healing care by going deeper to a level of connecting with the patient at spiritual level. My worldview includes connecting to patient through deeper therapeutic conversation offering hope, winning patient trust, and endorsing their positive beliefs towards healing and wellness. Similarly, Watson theory advocates for being involved with the patient through teaching and creating healing environment. It also advocates for attending and opening spiritual mysteries that promote healing miracles (Bayuo, 2017).

The two thus advocate for care that goes beyond acquiring physical symptoms of a disease to restoring hope, desire to live and hope in good health and other great life achievement. The theory reinforce my holistic approach of care through it caritas process that advocate for creating a healing environment and going beyond the normal physical caring procedure to include spiritual involvement to build hope and permit miracles, to offer teaching and to address other patients needs other than the physical care (Ozan, Okumus & Lash, 2015). The theory also reinforce my worldview by focusing on patient’s soul getting deeper into the patient’s need than in a normal caring process to attain this the nurse must win patient trust, and connect with the patient spiritually. This can only be achieved when nurse is complete in terms of personal growth, knowledge, and skills in patient care to attain the best results. Thus by advocating for spiritual connection, the theory reinforce my advocacy for personal growth and development as a nurse to attain high level of maturity and competency (Moorman, 2015).
Past or Current Practice and How My Worldview and Nursing Theory Could Assist in Resolving this Issue
My past nursing practice involved caring for elderly inpatients experiencing various health challenges including dislocation due to falls or physical weakness due to age, and dementia. While most of them are admitted for physical illnesses, they tended to demonstrate a high level of distress and frustration after being in the hospital for more than two days. Some were excessively worried about their businesses and daily activities, while other seemed scared of their failing healthy and considered it as a sign of ending of their time on earth. In this situation, attending to patient physical needs may assist in treating the pathological symptoms and causes of illnesses but could not heal the patient to guarantee high quality of life while inside the hospital ward or even after the discharge. Watson theory and worldview could assist me in moving away from treatment-based nursing practice to center more on caring nursing where both nursing and human paradigms of care are considered (Ozan & Okumus, 2017). Watson theory could help me to create a healing environment that eliminates personal worries and hopelessness by showing love, kindness and high level of understanding, to promote high belief in miracle and a promise of life.
How My Worldview and Nursing Theory will help in Developing my Future Practice
My worldview in nursing practice advocates for personal growth as a nurse in terms of knowledge and skills to achieve a high level of completeness to be able to care for others. This implies that my worldview will help me in building my level of proficiency in nursing, enhancing my ability to apply my knowledge, skills and experiencing provision of quality care (Rieg, Newbanks & Sprunger, 2017). Watson nursing theory advocates for development of a healing environment that centers on just on the health condition but also on humanistic approach of care. It will thus help me to develop more in my spiritual and ethical dimensions of care, bearing in mind the characteristics of every patient and their biological, social, psychological and spiritual needs that can fundamentally contribute to the expansion of holistic critical thinking and to the nurse role in research, teaching, and care (Riegel, Crossetti & Siqueira, 2018).
