Bush was running the country (Holmes, 1992). Rodney King was born in Sacramento, California on 2nd April, 1965. Between 1987 and 1989, King was arrested severally for committing different types of crime including battery, robbery with violence, assault, and intent to commit bodily injury. King was released from prison towards the end of1990.
In the 1990s, H. Ross Perot and Rodney King brought about significant impacts on America and their contributions to the legal and political systems in the country are still remembered to date. Bush, Bill Clinton, and the Democratic Governor of Arkansas. Even though Ross Perot did not win the 1992 elections, he did very well in the polls. Perot is still recognized in the American history as the first Independent Presidential candidate to do well in General Elections and as a politically outspoken person (Holmes, 1992). The issues of race and police brutality were fueled in American in 1991 when Rodney King, an African-American, was beaten and arrested by police. On March 31st 1991, King was chased by police officers along l-210 in Los Angeles County at a high speed of more than 110 miles per hour. This incident was captured by George Holliday from the Balcony of his apartment. From the videotape, police officers were seen striking King more than 50 times which made him to suffer several body injuries including 11 fractures (CNN Library, 2015).
On April 29th 1992, four police officers involved in King’s beating were acquitted of using excessive force on King. This led to riots in Los Angeles County where African Americans were involved in conflicts with the whites. A white truck driver, Reginald Denny was pulled out of the truck and beaten. The racial conflict and dusk to dawn curfews of 1992 that occurred in Los Angeles due to King’s beating was so cruel that no American would wish to witness such a riot. Although King faced direct effects of police beatings, he still went ahead and requested Americans to stay come stating that they could still get along (CNN Library, 2015).
On April 16th 1993, Powell, Koon, Wind, and Briseno were convicted of violating King’s civil rights. As a result of King’s beatings, Americans witnessed the United States District Court protect the constitutional rights of an African American (CNN Library, 2015). King passed on in 2012, but his life in America between 1992 and 2000 taught Americans the importance of maintaining a peaceful co-existence with people from other races. Additionally, police officers in America learnt to respect constitutional rights of suspects and criminals.
