Why did you select this element from among all the rest?

I selected rhythm among the other elements of music because I believe it is the most important element in music. It is possible to mix all the sounds, but it won’t make any sense without rhythm. The essence of music is to entertain apart from to educate and pass information. The entertaining aspect of music which is central to its purpose requires rhythm as an essential element of music. It is this flow of tone and chords that define why certain music are better than others. The ability to mix the tones and chords to generate a rhythmic sound requires precision and skills in music.

Do you think that all kinds of music could exist without your selected element? Elaborate on your view?

I don’t think there could be music without rhythm. More often than not, people play music for entertainment.  Music by nature can only entertain when it is drafted in a uniform pattern from which rhythm is derived. The tone and chords in music must be organized in manner that they produce a uniform sound. All music has their own chords and tones. This means that rhythms are different for all genres of music.

Describe a piece of music that highlights the use of your selected element

Jazz is music that uses propulsive rhythm to bring out sound that is uniform. Its rhythm is described as swing rhythm due to the intertwining notes and chords. The term swing was coined from the need for the dancer of jazz music to swing his/her body to the changing tones and chords of jazz music.
